The challenge? To create a mobile app that connects high school student-athletes, allowing them to collaborate and compete against one another to enhance their skills. The founder of NextUp Performance is a former high school and collegiate athlete with a passion for helping student-athletes achieve their goals. Through the Next Up mobile app, he aims to create a collaborative, competitive digital environment for students to set fitness goals, connect with their peers and improve their fitness and agility. The app is available to all high schools, so students can even compete against athletes at rival schools.

NextUp's Key Features
- Fitness Challenges: Coaches and students can create ‘fitness challenges’ to share with other app users. This allows students to keep track of their workouts and performance, as well as how their peers are doing.
- Leaderboards: Athletes can see how their progress stacks up against their peers on the Next Up app leaderboard. This leaderboard keeps track of challenges and athlete performance, ranking results accordingly.
- Challenge Submissions + Media: When an athlete is ready to take on a challenge, they can use the app to take pictures and videos throughout the workout. This serves as proof that the workout was done (and done well) and encourages other athletes to keep up.
- Social Sharing: Once athletes have submitted their challenge results and video content, other users can watch them. The app shows how many views each challenge submission received, encouraging athletes to create their own viral workout challenge submissions.
Goals & Progress Reporting
- Create a Profile: Student-athletes complete their Next Up profile by adding their name, sports, body metrics and teams to the app. This provides the baseline and allows them to connect with their teammates through a team-specific code.
- Specific Goal Setting: Athletes can create their own goals, such as completing the 800-meter dash in a certain amount of time.
- Continual Progress Tracking: Every time the student logs a workout or challenge in the Next Up app, the app records it and adds it to their previous data. This allows users to see a graphic representation of their fitness progress over time.
- Reporting Breakdown: Unlike most fitness apps, the Next Up app allows users to keep track of their progress based on targeted areas. For instance, users can see their upper body workout progress versus their lower body progress.
