Tech Companies in Dallas: The Growing Dallas Tech Scene

13Apr
Read Time: 2 minutes

Dallas is a unique city, as it curiously sprang up in the middle of nowhere. Unlike most major cities which are built around major ports, lakes / rivers and other strategic or inherently appealing locations. Yet Dallas is a vibrant city filled with entrepreneurs, creatives and lots and lots of tech companies! The Dallas tech scene is like no other and it’s rapidly emerging as a top pick amongst technology entrepreneurs and established tech companies alike, from major banks to Dallas custom software development companies and beyond.

The Dallas Tech Scene is Among the Nation’s Most Vibrant

In fact, in late 2020, Dallas ranked in the number two spot on CompTIA’s annual list of the best tech towns in the country. A neighboring metro region — Austin, Texas — came in at the number one spot on the Tech Town Index released in late 2020. Notably, Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) outranked both Silicone Valley and San Francisco!

CompTIA evaluated the Dallas tech scene and the tech scene in a total of 20 metro regions with a population of 250,000 or more by evaluating job postings for the timeframe between August 2019 to July 2020. Each region was evaluated for the total number of tech job postings, the cost of living, the number of projected IT job positions expected to become available in the next year and the next five years.

Notably, tech companies in Dallas tend to pay well, with a median salary of $94,044 for tech professionals, while the cost of living in DFW is said to be 2% below the nationwide average.

A number of major corporations have brought their business to the Dallas tech scene, including:

  • IBM;
  • JPMorgan Chase;
  • Wells Fargo;
  • Deloitte;
  • Citi;
  • USAA;
  • Verizon;
  • Lockheed Martin; and
  • InfoVision.

The Dallas tech scene saw a major jump over the prior year’s CompTIA list, which had the DFW region in the number seven spot. Dallas tech companies went from 146,388 to 178,579 tech-related job listings.

What’s more, Dallas was cited as having a one-year projected job growth of 3%, while five-year tech job growth was projected at 11%.
